Philip West – Business Director

I am passionate about produce and have always enjoyed its fast moving nature. I have always worked in the produce industry, starting out as a Technologist and then as a Trading Manager.  I spent six years in South Africa as Managing Director of a fruit export, farming and packing company and on return to the UK took the position of Fruit Trading Director at a large supplier to retail. 

I joined Bakkavor in 2005 as General Manager of Tilmanstone Salads which is where I am currently based.  Whilst the role still focused on produce, this was the first time I had worked in the fresh prepared foods side. 

Not only is it great to be in a business making outstanding world class products, I also enjoy having the autonomy the role allows and the flat structures operated within Bakkavor. We have a good team at Tilmanstone and everyday I enjoy seeing how my colleagues develop in their roles.

A management role at Bakkavor involves being able to adapt very quickly in such a fast moving business and quick decision-making is critical. You need to be commercially astute and be highly focused in your customer’s requirements. Having the ability to develop a strong empowered team is the only way to succeed.
