English Village Salads Ltd (EVS), based in Newport in East Yorkshire, today announces that following a sustained period of reduced demand, it has started a period of consultation with employee representatives to discuss the ongoing viability of the business operation. As part of this process the business will be consulting with all 134 hourly paid staff and 44 salaried staff. It is envisaged that the consultation process will last for 90 days during which time the Company will consider all representations made on behalf of the Company’s employees. Today’s announcement follows the announcement made by EVS in May 2011 that a major customer had elected to take a substantial part of their salads procurement to their in-house operation. This, combined with the ongoing challenging trading environment has continued to have a significant effect on the volume of business managed through EVS throughout the remainder of 2011.

The management of EVS understand that this is a very difficult time for all employees at EVS and stress that this action is no reflection on the significant commitment that staff have continued to show in very a tough marketplace.
